Meet The Team

Can (Jaan)
Owner
Can Cut’s is not where it all started for Jaan; it even goes beyond the 20 years of professional experience he has built up in the industry. His passion for barbering started in the mid 90’s when he decided to purchase a reconditioned clipper and started cutting cousins’ and close friends’ hair. Jaan takes us back to when he was 6 months old; as part of the Turkish Cypriot tradition, he had henna put on his right palm (for blessing and Halal earnings) and under his left foot (as protection from evil). During this ceremony, the baby would take an article from a tray of selected objects, which would be an indication of which career path they would follow. With excitement, Jaan had gone for a pair of scissors. It seems like his path to the future was also destined by his fate. Growing up, Jaan knew he would be using his passion for artistic creations in his career – “I knew I would be taking on a hands-on career path because of the passion that I had for arts and creativity”. Jaan’s talent in art and creativity led him to transfer his skills firstly into hairdressing and then barbering, where his passion lay, achieving Level 3 qualifications in both. Jaan not only wanted to continue developing himself, but he also wanted to teach the younger generation his skills. He went on to qualify as a Teacher, and then onto becoming an Assessor and an Internal Quality Assurer. With these skills and many years of experience under his belt, Jaan is not just a qualified barber but a man helping his community to thrive. Most of Jaan’s students have successfully opened their own shops and are working for well-known media and theatrical companies. As a student, Jaan has successfully competed in many National Competitions in both Hairdressing and Barbering. Later on in his career, Jaan took on judging roles at the same National Competitions. His talent was recognised early at these shows. Finding himself in demand, before he knew it, Jaan was styling Politicians, Sportsmen, and professional dancers working backstage for theatres, shows, concerts, and catwalks. Jaan has travelled extensively to meet the needs of his clients both in the UK and internationally. Inevitably, Jaan has decided to bring his 12 years of experience from Locksbottom to the amazing local residences of Farnborough Village, offering all different range of traditional and modern advanced hairstyles. Included in his expertise are razor work, pattern work, beard shaping, male grooming and colouring. Jaan is a great believer of ”Everyone deserves an impeccable image!”

Kim
Senior Barber & Hairstylist
Kim is a Senior barber and hairstylist. Known for consistency, professionalism, and a friendly, welcoming manner. Particularly great with families and clients who want a calm, steady experience. Hello there! I'm Kim, your seasoned barber and hairdresser with over four decades of experience in the industry. I've seen styles come and go, trends evolve, and hairdressing techniques advance tremendously over the years. How can I assist you today? Whether it's advice on a new look, hair care tips, or product recommendations, I'm here to help! From a young age, I harboured a passion for hairstyling, beginning in the early 70s when I would spend countless hours styling and colouring my dolls' hair with my father's help. This early fascination transitioned into my secondary school years in the mid to late 70s, where I frequently styled my friends' hair. Their trust and enthusiasm solidified my belief that hairstyling was not only something I loved but also a potential career path. Determined to turn my passion into a profession, I enrolled in a hairdressing course at Carshalton College in 1983. Over the next two years, I dedicated myself to earning City and Guilds qualifications in Hairdressing, Barbering, Makeup, Manicure, and Wig Making. This comprehensive education equipped me with a wide array of skills, laying a strong foundation for my career. Hairdressing and barbering were real fun back in the day—we had mods, skinheads, rockabilly, psycho billy, flat tops, and even the punks with their mohawks and spiked hair. I also did a lot of perms in the 80s, with spiral perms becoming big in the 90s, alongside black hair colour for rockers and bleached, then multi-coloured styles for punks. After getting my qualifications in 1985, I worked in Croydon for 5 years before finding myself travelling to the Isle of Wight, where I was a manageress in a barber shop until 1999, just before the millennium. Then I travelled over to West Africa and was there for 6 months, where I did hair while on holiday. Upon my return, I worked in Croydon for another 4 years. In 2004, I started working in Locksbottom, Bromley, Kent, and continued there until July 2023. As of mid-July 2023, I have taken a senior barber and stylist role at Can Cuts. Throughout my 41 years in the hairdressing industry, I have continually built on this foundation, adapting to new trends and techniques while maintaining a deep commitment to my clients. My journey from a young girl with a dream to a seasoned professional has been both fulfilling and inspiring, and I remain passionate about helping others achieve their desired look with confidence and style. Over the decades, I have also pursued continuous professional development through various advanced courses and seminars, ensuring that I stay at the forefront of the industry. This dedication has allowed me to master classic styles as well as embrace contemporary trends, providing my clients with versatile and up-to-date services. My extensive experience, coupled with a genuine love for barbering and hairstyling, has earned me a loyal clientele who appreciate my meticulous attention to detail and personalised approach. Whether it’s creating a timeless cut, a bold new colour, or a complete makeover, I take pride in delivering exceptional results that enhance my clients' natural beauty and boost their confidence. My career is not just about styling hair but about crafting an experience that makes every client feel valued and beautiful.

Deborah
Trainee Barber
Hi, I'm Deborah! I'm a trainee barber with a real passion for the craft and an eye for detail. I've known Can as a close family friend since I was nine, and it's his influence and passion for barbering — along with that closeness to my family — that drew me to picking up the clippers myself. I'm also a qualified lash and hair extension technician, so I love the whole world of styling and helping people look and feel their best. Right now I'm building my skills across the full range of gents' cuts, fades and beard work, and I learn something new with every client who sits in my chair. I take real pride in getting each finish just right, and I'll always take the time to look after you properly. Whether it's a classic trim or a modern style, come and say hello!
